Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
A number of people have been asking about the hymn 'Praise to the Lord, the Almighty' as featured at New Horizon 2012.
A few years ago (with lots of help from a German-English dictionary!) I translated from the original German chorale Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Ehren by Joachim Neander. I wanted to preserve much of the familiarity of the translation by the prolific German hymn translator Catherine Winkworth in the second half of the 19th century, but include facets of the German text that had been omitted or altered over the years of hymnody, in modern English.
The arrangement is for the tune long-associated with this hymn, also called Lobe den Herren.
